Seoul Luxury Movie Theaters

Seoul Luxury Movie Theaters:

I am wrapping up my first year living in South Korea and I’ve had so much fun exploring and trying all the things Korea has to offer. One of those things is luxury movie theaters. To be frank, South Korea does movie-going right. We’re talking blankets, slippers, fine dining, attendants, and seating so comfortable you may fall asleep. It is my life’s (Korea life) mission to go to every luxury movie theater in Seoul. So far we’ve got three down and I’m going to review them in this post on Seoul Luxury Movie Theaters.

4DX

For reasons, it was very important to me to support the movie Black Panther and give it as much money as I could. As such, going to a regular movie theater was out of the question so my friends and I opted to see Black Panther in 4DX.

4DX Theaters are all about the full sensory experience. What that meant for us is we got to view the movie not only on the screen directly in front of us but it was also projected on either side of us as well. That’s not the best part though.

No, the best bit is the motion and environmental effects. Your chair will heave, sway, roll and twist. For action-packed movies like Black Panther, you also get to be a part of the fight scenes with jerks and (soft) back punches. To get immersed in the flick’s environment, you’ll experience rain, snow, wind, scents and even lightning.

Watching movies 4DX style is great but a word of warning for all those who get motion sick…you will get motion sick. Especially if you see a movie as active as the one we went too. To combat this, I suggest motion sickness pills. These are the ones I take with me everywhere and it got me through the movie intact.

Megabox Boutique

Megabox Boutique is my go-to when I want to see a movie alone but also in style. These theaters were made to mimic a hotel-type experience with theaters being named Suite and Comfort. I decided to go with the Suite because they were said to be fancier than Comfort. For 35,000 won, I got a comfortable reclining seat with a footrest. A side table with a lamp to put my things. I also received slippers and a blanket to get comfortable.

The ticket included a choice of drink but when I looked at the “Room Service” menu and saw nachos, I couldn’t resist. (I haven’t had nachos since I moved here and the cravings have been murder!) My nachos came with melted cheese, salsa, and two more drinks and, oh yeah, they were delicious.

For solo female travelers who want to try something a little different while they are bopping around Seoul, I wholeheartedly recommend the COEX’s Megabox Boutique. Enjoy!

Tempur Cinema

Tempur Cinema is at the top of my Seoul Luxury Movie Theaters’ list because I don’t see how it can get any better than lying on an adjustable TempurPedic mattress and enjoying three courses of fine dining while you watch your flick.

If I could do TempurCinema every time I go to the movies I would. All my favorites things (bed, food, movies) are combined in one magical place. To enjoy what TempurCinema has to offer I’m afraid you’re going to need a movie buddy. Not very solo traveler friendly but there is a reason for it. The beds/seat come in pairs so if single tickets were sold, people would be getting real intimate and cozy in bed next to a complete stranger.

To avoid this tickets have to be bought in pairs and at 40,000 won per ticket, it would be very costly to go alone. But let’s say you do have a buddy and you’re all set. In that case, you will purchase your tickets and included in the price will be your choice of drink and a small snack, in my case that snack was shortbread cookies. If you want, you can purchase more food by buzzing an attendant who will come in and take your order of gourmet popcorn, calamari, whatever you like.

The seats/beds are slightly enclosed and each has their own phone charger, side table for your things, a coat hanger, and a blanket. I went to the one in Apgujeong but there are a couple of TempurCinema locations around Seoul.

Happy Travels!

There’s just no place quite like Seoul. There are so many unique things to see and do in this city for travelers of all types and varieties. I hope you enjoyed my post on Seoul Luxury Movie Theaters almost as much as you’ll enjoy the theaters themselves. If you have any more questions, don’t hesitate to ask!
